Established in 1980, the Department of Dramaturgy and Dramatic Criticism has consistently aimed to cultivate high-level professionals in Chinese opera scriptwriting and dramatic criticism. Over the years, it has achieved significant results in both distinctive development and high-quality growth. The Dramaturgy of Chinese Opera Programme has been selected among the national first-class undergraduate programmes by the Ministry of Education in China, and the core course "Chinese Opera Script-Writing" has been included in the first batch of national first-class undergraduate courses. The "Faculty Team in Chinese Opera Research and Creation" has been honored as an Excellent Teaching Team by Beijing Municipality. The department boasts teachers with titles such as the Ministry of Education's New Century Talents, Beijing Scholars, and Prominent Teachers of Beijing. It has also secured multiple major research projects funded by the National Social Science Fund.
The Department of Dramaturgy and Dramatic Criticism actively integrates into the new development framework, continuously deepening reforms in talent cultivation models, building a new-era teacher team, and reforming the admission system. It is comprehensively promoting the construction of the Chinese opera discipline system, academic system, and discourse system. These efforts contribute to the high-quality development of dramaturgy and dramatic criticism for Chinese opera and the establishment of a first-class Chinese opera art university known worldwide.
